Frequently Asked Questions

How To Prepare. What to Expect.

General Skydiving FAQs

What's special about Eugene Skydivers?

No one can be everything to everyone. Eugene Skydivers is not like many other drop zones, or perhaps we should say they aren’t like us. We don’t have the biggest and fastest planes, but we’re friendly, approachable, outgoing, and we sincerely love the sport of skydiving. We’re fully committed to giving you a memorable, safe, exciting experience. Often people will come for just one jump and enjoy it so much they stay for the full student training.

What should I wear?

Dress for the inevitable Oregon variety pack of weather. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes with tennis shoes are the best options. Please avoid wearing boots, sandals and heels. We will provide a jump suit, gloves, helmet, and goggles as needed.

What should I bring?

Individuals planning on making a jump will need to be sure to bring a government issued form of photo identification (a driver’s license or passport is acceptable).

How long will I be at the airport?

Plan to be at the airport or Drop Zone (DZ) up to 3-4 hours.

Can weather conditions affect skydiving?

YES! Weather plays a very important role in skydiving.  Some weather conditions that may affect skydiving are: overcast clouds, rain, fog, high or gusty winds. We ask all of our guests to be patient if there are delays or cancellations due to weather conditions. If unsure about weather conditions on the day of your jump, please call us at 541-895-3029.

How long does the skydive last?

A tandem Skydive is generally from 10,000 feet. The airplane ride takes about 20 minutes to get to altitude. Once you leave the plane there is between 35 and 45 seconds of freefall followed by a parachute ride of 5 to 6 minutes.

Can I train and jump on the same day?

Yes, for Tandem Skydives you will train and jump during the same trip to Eugene Skydivers. In the unfortunate event that the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will re-schedule your skydive for another day. However, there are no refunds due to weather.

Can I jump by myself for the first time?

Jumping by yourself on your first skydive is highly overrated. Think about it, would any pilot in training want to receive ground training and then hop in an airplane and go fly around by themselves? Of course not! At Eugene Skydivers, just like at most advanced skydiving centers throughout the United States, you will be harnessed to your instructor on your first jump, referred to as a tandem jump. You are on the front so it may very well feel like you are on your own, but you have your instructor with you as backup. A tandem is required and it counts towards your “A” licensing requirements if you choose to continue  to learn how to skydive on your own. It is a great way to introduce you to skydiving and after doing a tandem you will know if skydiving is indeed the sport for you.

How old do I have to be to make a tandem skydive?

You must be at least age 18 to do a tandem skydive.  We regret that parents cannot sign for jumpers under 18 for any reason, under any circumstances.  We also reserve the right to refuse to train you or take you on a skydive if we don’t believe you are fit enough to be safe on the skydive.

Are there weight limits?

Yes. Sorry, but if you exceed 220 pounds we cannot take you for a tandem skydive. This weight should factor in clothes and shoes. Guests should be height/weight proportionate. Please note, we weigh our guests prior to jumping.

What if my health isn't good?

Skydiving isn’t an extremely strenuous sport, but it does require you to be generally in good health. You must be strong enough to handle yourself in freefall and under parachute. You must be limber enough to sit crouched in a small airplane for 20 minutes. You must be able to handle the landing which, even though it’s usually gentle, can sometimes be less forgiving. If you have any questions about your ability to skydive, you should definitely consult your doctor first.

Will I need to fill out any paperwork?

All persons must sign a liability release form before jumping from any aircraft at Eugene Skydivers.

Are dogs permitted at the drop zone?

Dogs are permitted but must be leashed at all times. Dogs are not permitted in the hanger.

Should I tip my skydiving instructor?

Tips are certainly appreciated and welcomed, but never expected. If you feel you’ve received excellent service, instructors. the pilot, packers all feel appreciated with a gratuity!

Can I buy gift certificates?

Yes, we offer gift certificates. They are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. Our primary operating season is between May to October. Weather is a factor for starting and ending our season.

Why is skydiving expensive?

We believe you should shop around for competitive pricing. Why not? Everybody wants to save a buck or two. However, we would caution you strongly on simply buying a skydive based on the price. At Eugene Skydivers we are not in the business of selling a cheap service. This is not because we have too much business. No, quite the opposite. We value you as a customer and want to provide you with the best possible skydiving experience. This cannot happen if our business focus’ on the price, we pride ourselves on focusing on our customers, you!

Skydiving is truly a dream come true, and in order for us to live this dream, we have to make the investment into our aircraft, parachutes, and facilities. Our instructors have thousands of skydives and train regularly to provide you with a great skydiving experience.

Video FAQs

If I have a GoPro camera or a similar small camera, am I permitted to bring this with me on my jump?

No outside cameras are permitted on your skydive due to safety reasons. There are no exceptions. The United States Parachute Association mandates that skydivers have a minimum of 200 jumps prior to taking a camera into freefall.

Can I get video of my jump?

Yes, in fact about most of our first-time students get video and pictures of their skydive. Our videos & still pictures are generally taken using a wrist-mounted cameras worn by your instructor. This gives you fantastic footage of you, your instructor and the incredible views we offer.

Can we get one video for our whole group?

No, the time/distance gap between jumper exits precludes a camera person from being able to film more than one student at a time.
